Is polyester a good yarn?
Polyester yarn is a type of synthetic textile fiber made from a polymer. fibers are often spun with natural fibers to form cloths with mixed properties. Cotton-polyester blend is strong, wrinkle- and tear-resistant, and reduces shrinkage. Synthetic fibers using polyester are more resistant to water, wind and the environment than fibers of plant origin. They are less fire resistant and will melt when ignited.

What is polyester yarn good for?
Polyester yarns are made from a thermoplastic polymer. The main use of Polyester has been in the Textiles field for making Yarns. In different forms is used widely in textile application to make polyester (PET)resin and Filament Yarn such as Partially Oriented Yarn (POY),Polyester Drawn Textured Yarn (DTY), Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY), Staple Fiber (PSF), Spun Yarn (PSY), Technical Yarn, Tire cord and Mono filaments Yarn.
Polyester filament yarns is used in knitting & weaving to make fabrics such as consumer fabrics and home furnishing like curtains, bed sheets, bed spreads and draperies. Similarly Polyester high tenacity industrial yarns can be used to make ropes, conveyor belts, safety belts & tire fabric.

Pros and Cons of Polyester
Polyester yarn is a synthetic fiber that is derived from petroleum. It’s used to make clothing, carpets, furniture, and other items that need durability and strength. It can be made by chemically transforming another polymer such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
For most people, polyester’s greatest advantage is its low cost. Its greatest disadvantage is its environmental impact. Some people also wonder if polyester is bad for your skin. Most studies seem to indicate that this is not the case. Some people do have an allergic reaction to the chemicals sometimes used to treat the fabric.
Depending on the method used to weave the material, you may find polyester hot and sticky. This could irritate your skin. That said, better types of this material have breathability and moisture-wicking qualities. These qualities will prevent such irritations!
